BCXSY have been invited by the Krabbedans to be it’s first representative during the Glow Festival 2009.

Eindhoven has been for long years the light source for many places in the world. Every one of those places may look different in daylight, but when night is falling, a rich and colourful matrix of lights emerges and paints the darkness.

City of Light illustrates an abstract image of a city. The installation consists of four hanging LED-lit light boxes, featuring layered images of imaginary cities. The light boxes are gently moving by the wind generated by two simple ventilators, creating a blurry, cinematic moving image which comes to life every evening when light turns to darkness.

BCXSY has just completed the Kaleidoscope Cabinet – a modular jewelry display for the new concept shop, RA which will open in Antwerp on the 17th of October 2009.

The Kaleidoscope Cabinet features a simple construction, consisting of oak plywood, mirrors and hardened-glass, which achieves a striking visual effect and a unique manner of displaying the exhibited jewelry pieces.

Following a successful launch during the Dutch Design Week, Copy Nature will be featured in a dedicated exhibition at De Krabbedans, Eindhoven, between February 12th and April 11th 2010.

Copy Nature / The Nature of Copies is a project initiated by Max Lipsey who gathered 12 different designers who were given the chance to experiment with metal casting at the Beeldenstorm metal casting workshop, TU terrain, Eindhoven.  Boaz & Sayaka were happy to be two of the invited designers and worked on two individual projects;

Copy Copy Nature by Sayaka plastic fruits and vegetables have been cut into pieces and then fused together  into new compositions, creating ‘new species’. Cast in bronze and then carefully polished, the new objects turn into small precious containers.
This work  comments on the possible loss or mutation of the original through cycles of copies, imitation and reproduction.

Wrapped Candlestick by Boaz  is the first result of experiments with the casting of wrapping materials in bronze. Wrapping materials are usually soft, light and supposed to protect fragile objects.  By transforming those materials  into metal, the wrapping material becomes the object itself. To be continued..!

BCXSY have designed the presentation and graphics for Mode Belofte & Items Eindexamen Selectie exhibition at the Krabbedans.

Due to the large number and diversity of the exhibited works, the presentation concept was to keep the exhibition as clean as possible, while adding a subtle colour accent, using outlines created by threads and nails. The result was a peaceful space, which allowed the visitors to concentrate on the different pieces, while experiencing the ’spirit of the time’ as a whole.

Getting Lost is finding the new and unexpected.
Getting Lost is self-reflection, self-discovery, self-awareness.
Getting Lost is facing the inner struggle, moving between moments of confusion and moments of light.

Getting Lost, in our design experience, is absolute freedom. Losing one’s self is a luxury that all can afford, but few choose to indulge. It is a gift that must be handled with care and with conscience. All of our senses are engaged as we wander down the unexpected, through the unfamiliar, to new places and experiences where our perceptions are challenged and our horizons expanded. It is the directionless journey that leads to strange and beautiful discoveries.

Based on the theme of MLY’s latest collection, we have asked 12 designers to explore their own notion of Getting Lost. Each designer has an individual way of sharing and expressing this freedom. The results are a fascinating and diverse collection of works that explore new possibilities in materials, techniques, and compositions.

We are delighted to invite you to follow your senses through this unique and exciting collection, on exhibition during Dutch Design Week.

Fine leather garments and fur coats have always been considered luxurious and exclusive. However, because of slight damage or changing fashion trends, what was once a prized possession becomes an antiquated dust collector.

Re-skinned explores the ways we use and re-use valuable materials.

The collection consists of a series of carpets made from old leather and fur coats that have been taken apart, reassembled, and repurposed as traditional skin rugs. With a protective, non-slip lining and an embossed serial number, each piece is as durable as it is distinct.

Animal skins have a memory. They remember the singular shape of the body who wore them, they remember the tiny holes at the seams where they were stitched, they become a map of the ways in which they were first used. It is this memory that makes each piece in the Re-skinned collection extremely unique and individual.

The cultural world is focused on design and the discipline is gaining importance every day, every hour, almost. The auction houses of the world make the prices of autonomous pieces escalate and the one-of-a-kind avant-garde, or vintage industrial is the new object of desire for collectors, and is housed in the collections of prestigious brands.

Therefore the consumer will access design in a new way and acknowledge not just function but more so emotional and investment values.

Design takes its place next to art and is fast becoming the discipline of the 21th century.

With this growing enthusiasm for form, people will therefore conceive their houses and studios in a new more artistic way with connoisseur connotations… their home becomes an atelier, a gallery or even a small private museum.

People will collect and accumulate decorative pieces, put ordinary objects on a pedestal to consider them anew, single out the beautiful, and give it space. We will in fact master the installation of our own life, creating a dialogue amongst design pieces. Therefore, inspiration is taken from archetypical museums as found in the metropolises of the world. We will explore history with studies of antiquity, experiences of science, narration of natural history, rediscovery of craft and the rebirth of the curiosity cabinet, but also rethink modernism in a truely contemporary manner, referring to sculpture, abstraction, drawing and installation art. All these disciplines will in turn further influence design to become of an even greater conceptual value.

The collectionneur will become the curator of his own life’s exhibit, creating a Museum House.”
