As the summer continues, we have some more updates to share with you:

BCXSY’s CHANGE! collection and the Re-skinned project were invited to participate in the Archaic Shelters exhibition by Elizabeth Leriche during Maison & Objet Paris.

“New modes of protection

Times of uncertainty reactivate the archaic desire to take shelter and find inner peace. An ultra-contemporary architecture of refuge and comfort is responding to a need for privacy. Architecture is drawing inspiration from the primordial home and the nest in order to take to the heights or gain distance. From fragile to raw materials, from feather to stone by way of animal skins, design is borrowing elements from nature in order to build neo-primitive retreats.”

The Coiled and Destilled Nature vases will be featured at the special GastGastgeber pop-up store curated by Judith ter Haar, as part of NL-RUHR/RUHR.2010

This store/exhibition will be take place between August 28th and October 17th at Halle 5 of the Zeche Zollverein, Essen, Germany.

Reminder:

Upcoming Friday Sayaka Yamamoto’s COLLECSSION exhibition will open at RA concept shop in Antwerp.

The show will feature 3 new series of brooches, all inspired by plants, nature and the passion of collection.

A special book with 20 full-color illustrations will be also available as well.

Reminder + Update:

Next to the overview presentation of our work during Design Act in Moscow, opening on August 31st, we will present a new piece from the Golden Glory series – Nr. 005.

The Golden Glory Nr. 005 is a clock made of plastic toys, hand-gilded and presented in a glass-bell.

A special clock of the Golden Glory series, made for Design Act Moscow.

The exclusive one-offs that comprise Golden Glory explore the necessity of cherishing meaningful objects. Through the laborious art of hand-gilding, common plastic novelties and generic trinkets transcend the realm of the mass produced and meaningless and become truly remarkable modern day keepsakes.

Materials: mass-produced plastic toys and everyday objects – hand gilded with 23.75k gold-leaf, glass-bell.

BCXSY has been invited to participate in Design Act, Moscow.

Design Act a multifunctional festival, which has no analogues in Russia.

Between the 31st of August and 5th of September 2010 BCXSY will feature a presentation offering a work overview from the last few years.

From the 27th of August until the 21st of September 2010, Sayaka Yamamoto will have a solo exhibition at RA concept shop in Antwerp, Belgium.

The show, titled COLLECSSION will feature three new brooches collections which are inspired by the obsession behind the collection of plants and nature’s treasures.

BCXSY has been invited to participate in Design Act in Moscow.
Design Act a multifunctional festival, which has no analogues in Russia. Industrial design is the world of objects around us. Anything from an ash tray to a tank, from a match to a street-lamp is a result of the industrial designers’ work.

Between the 31st of August and 5th of September 2010 BCXSY will feature a presentation offering a work overview from the last few years, including a new piece from the Golden Glory series which was created especially for the event.

On September the 3rd at 18:00 o’clock BCXSY will take part of the Design Forum with ‘Design Travels’ – a talk and discussion about the relations between design, traveling and how they can contribute to each other..

BCXSY is proud to be invited to take part in the Post Fossil exhibition at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, Tokyo!

In the exhibition, curated by Li Edelkoort, BCXSY will present several works, including 7 Stones, Ishi, Living with Dinosaurs (by Sayaka Yamamoto) and introduce for the first time the Mixed Animals Polygon.

Editions in Craft (EiC), established by Stockholm based curators Reneé Padt and Ikko Yokoyama,  is a production platform that invites artists, designers and traditional craftspeople to collaborate on projects. By joining and exchanging expertise and by merging traditional techniques with contemporary practice, it seeks to explore new, more equitable strategies for the production, marketing and distribution of design and crafts products.

BCXSY was invited to take part in EiC’s kick-off project, in collaboration with the Siyazama Project a bead craft collective of women from KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa , initiated by professor Kate Wells. Commonly the Siyazama ladies create traditional dolls representing animal and human figures.

In designing a new platform, the goal was to only implement locally found materials in order to keep the process possible and accessible.

Coiled consists of a series of interior accessories that finds inspiration in traditional ceramic vessels – earth wares constructed by hand coils of clay.

The intricate beadwork of the Siyazama women, in both pattern possibilities and color, is reminiscent of the inherently scaled skin of a serpent.

Each piece is made by encircling the serpentine beaded coils, like the natural movements of a boa constrictor, into the resulting form of a unique interior accessory.

The Siyazama women use their own artistic vision to determine the patterns and colors for the ’skin’ of each piece.

Copy Nature has won a competition by Dezeen and Organisation in Design and will be given a space during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2010 in Milan!

The exhibition will take place at Ventura Lambrate.
